Artis Lazdins signs with Piast Gliwice
Artis Lazdins joined the club in the end of the August, where he passed all the necessary medical tests and trained with the team. During the try-out Latvian midfielder also played one friendly game against Dortmund “Borussia” reserve team, which ended 1:1. After completing all formalities the contract between both parties was signed on 12 September.
Commentary of the PRIME football agent Edgars Ikstens: We are happy that we could agree with the Gliwice club, which plays in the highest division league in Poland. From the athletic perspective this is a step forward for Artis, considering that he played in the Latvian Virslīga before. There were also other, financially more appealing offers, but Artis chose perhaps the most interesting one from the athletic perspective.
GKS “Piast” club was founded in 1945 and is located in the south of Poland in the Gliwice city. For the several last years the club played in the Polish first league, but after winning the first league last year the club was promoted to the Polish highest division league Ekstraklasa. GKS “Piast” also played in Ekstraklasa from 2008 – 2010, but in 1978 and 1983 the club played in the Polish Cup finals.
The Polish Ekstraklasa season started on 17 August and currently GKS “Piast” have lost two games and won one game, which allows the club to be in the 11th place (among 16 clubs) in the league.
